Get in Touch with Nature at the Charlotte Nature Museum

The Charlotte Nature Museum is bursting into Spring full force with various events and later summer camps designed for both kids and adults.

For the parents, there’s A Night Out with Nature on April 26th. Grab a babysitter and head to the Nature Museum to enjoy bluegrass, barbeque and blues. Tickets are $50, which include a barbeque plate, free flowing beer and wine, and a $25 tax-deductible donation to the Charlotte Nature Museum.

Then on May 17th, bring your wee pixie out for the Fairy Festival from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Wear your best pair of fairy wings and come help with fairy and hobbit house building, an exciting story time, and the always memorable live butterfly release in the Butterfly Pavilion.

Discover New Art at the Kings Drive Art Walk – April 26th and 27th

This art walk brings both new and established local artists together to display their work through the easily accessed Little Sugar Creek Greenway on King’s Drive. The artists’ media includes pottery, glass, wood, paintings, leather and textiles, jewelry, photography, sculpture and unique mixed media pieces. With a  wide range of prices, there’s a style and piece for everyone.

There will also be food vendors and strolling musicians, so it’s a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of spring and local art with family and friends.

BeachFest Matthews

While a drive to the outer banks may be seven hours too long, you can get down in the sand at Matthews’ BeachFest. Activities include shag dancing to a number of different beach music performers, as well as carnival rides, arts and crafts and bounce houses for the kids.

On Saturday morning, the Sandy Feet 5K will take off from Stumptown Park. All proceeds from the run will benefit the Matthews area Habitat for Humanity. Runners who are interested can register online- the fee is only $25 if you do register before the day of the race.

A Cornhole tournament will also occur on Saturday, the 26th. A great option for anyone who loves the classic southern game, registration for a two person team is only $10!

Love Berries? Head to the South Carolina Strawberry Festival

Located in Fort Mill, close to Waxhaw and new homes for sale in Charlotte NC, Fort Mill’s Strawberry Festival has won South Carolina’s Event of the Year for two years running. It’s easy to see why, with the plethora of activities and events that happen during the SC Strawberry Fest.

On Thursday night the festival starts off with the Strawberry Pick-N-Flick. Pick your own strawberries at a discounted rate, then settle in for a movie under the stars. Don’t forget your picnic blanket!

The weekend includes a car show, golf tournament, and musical lineup, aptly titled The Strawberry Jam. There’s also an entire kids zone with carnival rides and bounce houses for all ages, as well as a rock climbing wall, ice cream eating contest, arts and crafts, and a bubble dance!

Waxhaw’s Own SpringFest – May 17th and 18th

Two days of local music, arts and crafts and a super fun KidsZone make it obvious why finding new homes in Charlotte NC will lead you to the quaint and active town of Waxhaw. A wide variety of down-home concessions will also be on sale.
